First day of school tips and tricks
Hi Room 10 Families,
I am so excited to reconnect with my returning students as well as meeting my new students in person! As much as I enjoyed seeing you online, I much prefer to see your faces live and in person.
Let’s see, where to begin…
I had a lovely summer staycation. I spent most of my time hiking in the mountains or paddling on the lake. I enjoyed having the time to stop and smell the flowers with my family and a few close friends. I know it has been an unusual summer break for us all, figuring out cohorts, travel, masks and all of the rest. I hope you had a great time and enjoyed the fabulous August weather.
Tips for the first few days back:
· Check out my blog for tips and videos, we tried to create some fun and informative video clips to help you stay safe and healthy at school.
· Label everything!
· Wear a mask and have a container to store it in your backpack during recess breaks.
· Bring an extra mask if possible, and practice putting on and taking off your mask at home with help from a family member or by watching the blog video.
· Bring a water bottle to keep hydrated.
· Dress in layers as weather changes frequently. (jacket, hoodie)
· Leave all toys and school supplies at home, we have everything you need other than the items mentioned above.
Room 10 Meeting Spot:
· Ms. Yates and I will greet you as you disembark the bus and then we will sit spaced out, on the grass to the left of the front door by the trees.
· We will enter together, while physically distancing, and find our seat spot in Room 10.
· We will be spending our days in Room 10 for the first while, getting to know each other and keeping our numbers low to increase safety.
LUNCH:
· Pack a lunch that does not require a microwave or hot water
· Bring a recess snack in a separate baggie, that you can take outside to eat, and that does not require utensils. (simple things like a piece of fruit or a granola bar will be easier than a yogurt or fruit cup)
· All lunch garbage and recycling will come back home, in the lunch bag, so I recommend having a ziploc bag for messy containers like yogurt, juice boxes, fruit cups to come back home without leaking all over your lunch kit.
· Practice opening your containers such as thermoses, tupperware, packaged food, etc, as we want to keep your personal items safe and lessen outside contact. Try to ensure your child can manage their lunch independently.
School will look the same and different. Let’s be flexible and kind and find the joy in returning to school together. We are so excited to see you!
Love Ms. Purkiss
